The Joshua Tree Annual Golf Tournament at Sandiway Golf Club

On Tuesday, 4th June 2024, The Joshua Tree held its annual golf tournament at the prestigious Sandiway Golf Club. The event was a fantastic success, drawing 76 keen golfers from various businesses. This provided a wonderful opportunity for networking while enjoying a great day on the greens.

A Day on an Exceptional Course

The players couldn't stop praising the condition of the course. Known for its lush fairways and challenging layout, it is a true gem in the heart of Cheshire. The course is meticulously maintained and features beautiful fairways, manicured greens and delightful backdrops which together make for a really scenic yet 'testing' days golf.

The sunshine broke through for the majority of the day, and despite the heavy rain towards the end of the afternoon, the players enthusiasm for the competition never diminished.

David Perrin, Head of Operations at The Joshua Tree and a member of the runner-up team, remarked, "It wouldn't matter if the rain was pouring like it was; the course is so good that every golfer enjoys playing at Sandiway. The course tests every skill set whatever your handicap'

The Event

The day began with bacon rolls to fuel the golfers, followed by refreshments and pies at the half-way house during their round. Once all 18 holes completed and back in the club house the players enjoyed club sandwiches and the awards ceremony.

The winning 4 ball team of the day were Ashton Town, with members from Investec coming a close second. The winning team will get exclusive use of a Porsche for a weekend to drive around at their leisure. The longest drive was won by Investec's Andy Stevenson, and the Nearest the pin winner was Lewis Barker. Dereck Vickers won a Porsche experience for the fun Hole in One but not a Hole in One challenge.

Amy Wilkinson, Events and Community Fundraiser and the dedicated organiser of the annual event, expressed her delight at the outcome. "Doubling last year's fundraising from the event is a testament to the incredible support we receive from our community, huge thanks go to Darryl and his team at Sandiway Golf Club for the smooth running of the event.”

A Collaborative Effort

The success of the event was made possible by the invaluable contributions of various volunteers and sponsors. We extend our heartfelt thanks to BNY Mellon and Storengy for allowing their employees to volunteer at the event. Our dedicated Joshua Tree volunteer, Chris Baldwin Operations Director at Pear Hospitality also played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the day.

A big thank you to Birtwistles Butchers for supplying the halfway house pies that were much enjoyed by everyone... the perfect pick-me-up for the golfers as they made their way around the course.

We are incredibly grateful to Porsche Wilmslow, for their generous support. Additionally, we appreciate all the businesses that donated raffle prizes, contributing to the excitement and success of the event.

Looking Ahead

The Joshua Tree annual golf tournament at Sandiway Golf Club not only provided a fantastic day of golf and networking opportunity but also significantly supported our mission to assist families affected by childhood cancers. We look forward to next year's event which will be an even more exciting and fun tournament whilst building on this year's success and continuing to bring our community together for a great cause.
