On January 26th, 2024, representatives Kathryn, Val and Elliot from The Joshua Tree were honoured to attend the Community ReAwards held at Vale Royal Abbey in Cheshire. Kathryn and Val have been volunteering with The Joshua Tree for over 7 years, so was an honour for them to represent The Joshua Tree and our tram of volunteers.

Securing nominations in two categories marked a significant achievement for Team Joshua Tree. The first nomination was in the 'Charity Group of the Year (Under 50 Volunteers)' category, recognising the impactful work of a charity group with fewer than 50 volunteers. Additionally, our dedicated volunteer, Elliot Wilkinson, was shortlisted in the 'Young Volunteer 17-24' category which acknowledges individuals who have contributed to making a difference to their community through personal fundraising challenges or voluntary roles.

The evening commenced with a delightful refreshments reception before the awards ceremony kicked off, with the High Sheriff, Dr Denis Dunn MBE JP DL, addressing the audience and announcing the awards. The closing of the evening was eloquently summarised by Poet Kate Jenkinson.

Elliot Wilkinson, "Being nominated and shortlisted for young volunteer of the year is an honour and I'd like thank The Joshua Tree.
They’re a brilliant charity that have an endless work rate to help those affected by childhood cancer. Whether it be the child , the family or their extended family.
The Joshua Tree support centre is a welcoming environment that helps all. And I’d like to personally thank them for helping me. A big reason for my volunteering is that I sadly lost my sister to cancer when I was 8 years old. Volunteering for this amazing charity is my way of giving back."

Why Community ReAwards?

Organised by volunteers themselves, The Community ReAwards understand first-hand how volunteers may not always receive the recognition they deserve for their invaluable service to the community. These selfless people willingly give up their free time amidst their work, family life, and other commitments for the sole purpose of helping others.

This spirit of selflessness is consistently demonstrated by our volunteers at The Joshua Tree. We are deeply humbled to have such an amazing and dedicated team that we can rely on to support the families benefiting from our services.

The Community ReAwards provide a platform for our volunteers to receive proper gratitude and recognition for their unwavering commitment to volunteering and the positive impact they make on our community.

Why Volunteer?

Without the incredible people who volunteer at The Joshua Tree, we wouldn't be able to achieve what we do. Volunteers are at the very heart of our charity, and we invite you to join this compassionate community!

Whether it's raising funds, increasing awareness, inspiring others about our mission, or contributing to the support centre, there's a role to suit everyone. In return, they can meet new people, acquire new skills, enhance their CV, and experience the fulfilment of helping families affected by childhood cancers.

No specific skills or experience are required to join our friendly team; all you need is a willingness to get involved. If you're new to volunteering, don't worry – we provide our volunteers with all the information, training, and support needed to take on a role.

Congratulations Team Joshua Tree and Elliot, all winners in our eyes!
