A Forest School at The Joshua Tree

At The Joshua Tree, we believe in the power of nature to nurture both children and adults’ wellbeing. That’s why we recently took a step back into nature for our brilliant half-term forest school event.

Getting outside into the open air and connecting with the natural world offers numerous benefits for people of all ages:

  • Physical Health: Outdoor activities encourage physical movement, helping children and adults stay active and healthy.
  • Mental Well-being: Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, promoting overall mental well-being.
  • Creativity and Imagination: Nature sparks creativity and imagination, providing endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

With the guidance of Robyn from Nature Makers, we embarked on an adventure through the woodlands adjacent to our support centre. Together, we foraged for natural materials and used them to create fabulous artwork.

From learning the art of weaving, to crafting Easter bird nests, our families engaged in a variety of hands-on activities. We even explored outdoor painting, allowing creativity to flow freely within the scenic surroundings of The Joshua Tree.

While our team facilitated the activities, we encouraged a child-led approach to the day. This helps to foster independence and self-esteem through hands-on learning in a woodland environment.

Thank you to our volunteers and families who attended another wonderful family event. Special thanks to Robyn from Nature Makers for leading the events activities.
