New Support Centre

The new Support Centre provides an appropriate and much needed environment for families, accommodating children of all ages from toddlers through to teenagers. The Centre features a multi-functional activity room, counselling suites, soft play and sensory equipment, a games room, office facilities, an outdoor play area and landscaped gardens all of which will further enhance the support service.

After 14 years of fundraising we are excited to be able to welcome families to a tranquil setting where they can access the support they require for all members of the family affected by a childhood cancer.

From the moment I stepped into the building, I felt the soothing heartbeat of The Joshua Tree. Families using the centre will surely feel the care and thought that has been expended in the creation of such a cocooning space, which radiates nurture, serenity, safety and acceptance.

The floor plan below shows our new Support Centre ready to welcome families affected by childhood cancers.

Our families and beneficiaries have been a major influence in the layout and facilities available in the new Support Centre and we are incredibly excited to have completed construction on a very welcome addition to the charity.

The Joshua Tree Support Centre Plan

Sensory Room

Not the usual type of hospital sensory room.

When the centre is quiet, the room will be transformed into a haven of peace to allow children to either sleep or simply relax whilst watching bubble tubes and/or interactive wall can be used as an activity along with the soft play toys.

A 'snug' area will provide a quiet space for story reading

Play Room

A large multi-functional space with tables and chairs for the children to play as well as a sink and a storage area to house a large dishwasher for cleaning the toys as part of our infection control procedures.

Teenage Den

A flexible Teenage Den which can be used by the children with an indoor football table, online gaming and a quiet space to study and read.

Heart space

Table and chairs for informal meetings and dining, desk space and beautiful views out to landscaped gardens.

Therapy/Pamper Rooms

Two rooms for small group counselling/therapy/pamper or treatment sessions

Playground

With children at its heart, the playground is centred with our Joshua Tree House, a structured play system that will allow the children to play freely in a safe and secure play area normally out of bounds due to infection control issues.
