The Joshua Tree Celebrates 20 Years of Supporting Families

In April 2026, The Joshua Tree will mark 20 years of providing essential emotional health and wellbeing support to families affected by childhood cancer. Founded by Dai and Lynda Hill in 2006 when their son Joshua was diagnosed with leukaemia, what began as a small community initiative has grown into a trusted charity working with more than 750 families across the UK, with bases in Cheshire and North Wales.

Inspired by their own family’s journey when their son Joshua was diagnosed with leukaemia, founders Dai and Lynda Hill were determined to ensure no family faced childhood cancer alone.

The Joshua Tree in 2026 boasts a beautiful space for families

Last year, The Joshua Tree featured on the special Children In Need episode of DIY SOS, with hundreds of volunteers helping to extend its current base.

That has ensured the charity is able to provide a wide range of family support activities from its purpose-built support centre in Cheshire to more people.

Support for families is also available through a centre in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, alongside mobile outreach services and a comprehensive online offering, ensuring families can access support wherever and whenever it is needed.

Rich Driffield, the charity’s chief executive, explained: “The Joshua Tree is a special charity, built on our founders’ values and shaped by the families we support, together with our staff, trustees, volunteers and generous supporters who make our work possible.

“As we celebrate 20 years, our commitment to providing a vital support to families affected by childhood cancer remains stronger than ever. We want to make sure everyone who needs help can access it . But to do that, we need to make sure we continue to raise funds so we can be there when people need us most.”

As part of its 20th anniversary year, The Joshua Tree will host a series of fundraising and community events, including its 20th Anniversary Ball on 30 April 2026, alongside walks, runs, lunches, and challenges.
